Whilst at AHMM Dominique worked on this scheme which consists of 34 modern apartments with associated communal facilities and gardens to provide a key social aspect to the development.

The site is located on Cliff Road on Falmouth’s Seafront. The site has great views across Falmouth Bay and towards Pendennis Castle.

The building concept is that of deep plan, dual aspect balcony accessed apartments to maximise the sea views and available frontages. The plan is a clear and logical diagram that minimises circulation and creates simple stacking typologies that exploit the efficiencies of repetition and provide a lean structural grid. Balconies are conceived as an outdoor room, and they should offer protection from the elements to encourage year-round use.

A cross-laminated timber structure has been selected for its sustainable credentials and has also provided advantages with cost, programme, foundation design, offsite fabrication and for the floor-floor dimension to be lower than steel or concrete.

The overhanging eaves, balconies and deep reveals project adequate self-shading to the openness of the sea facing facades resulting in a passive solar orientated building assisted by individual dwelling heat recovery units and natural ventilation throughout.
